A highly experienced strategist, executive motivator and business manager, Alan commenced his career as a lawyer, becoming a Partner and then Managing Partner at one of Australia’s pre-eminent law firms. Alan was involved closely in the management, strategic direction and growth of his law firm.
He then joined Australia’s largest independently-owned funds management business as CEO, building the business in six years from $900 million to $3.5 billion in funds and expanding through joint ventures in Australia and into the UK and South Africa.
Since 2003, Alan has operated his own business strategy and mentoring business, with a great number of clients in professional services. In doing so, he realised that in professional services firms, there is constantly a squeeze on margins. So, with Simon and Nic, he has worked to improve those margins both at the top line and at the expense line. Thus, The Collective Advantage.
Simon is the founder of The Professional Partner Group (“TPPG”), a management consultancy driving profitable growth in closely held businesses and discrete business units. Prior to forming TPPG, Simon was a Senior Manager in the Enterprise Group of Arthur Andersen, where he specialised in providing strategic and operational advice to a range of organisations and businesses.
During his 12 years with Arthur Andersen, he gained experience in the Financial Consulting Services division in the London office, specialising in business strategies, productivity reviews and financial management. A key element of Simon’s consulting focus is working with Boards to improve their effectiveness and retain a strategic role.
Since then he has worked closely with many firms of varying size, to assist with strategic positioning, partner performance and understanding the drivers of profitability. During the period 1994 to 2000, Simon consulted to Gilbert & Tobin in the capacity as Chief Operating Officer. In this project, Simon gained considerable understanding about how to drive profitable growth in all levels of a professional services firm.

Nic is an experienced chairman, director, consultant, and business leader. He has extensive expertise in business development, stakeholder management, business operations and board governance. Nic spent 20 years in legal practice with a mid-tier law firm, 16 of which as Managing Principal. During that time he successfully drove efficiency and profitability within the law firm which included both revenue growth and efficient cost management.
Since 2007 Nic has operated as a consultant in his own business and in association with TPPG Pty Ltd, working with boards and businesses in developing strategies, formulating governance frameworks and providing advice on management/governance systems and procedures.
He was also a director of the Geelong Football Club between 2006 and 2013, during which time the club won 3 premierships, achieved record membership and delivered several core stadium outcomes – all of which have established the club as a leading professional sporting club in Australia.
